Are you looking for the best Bodum electric kettle? Here is what you need to know about the models Bodum sells in the US right now before you buy one.

Electric kettles are a staple in most kitchens, because hot water is needed for so many things. There are plenty of ways to boil water, but an electric kettle is one of the most popular: it is affordable, quick and uses power only for as long as it takes to heat the water. Many companies make good kettles, and this guide covers only Bodum. The Danish brand is best known for its French presses, and it also sells a small range of electric kettles in the US. Below are five of them, with what sets each one apart.

Updated September 2026: product availability, specs and prices re-checked.

1. IBIS Electric Water Kettle

Bodum Electric Kettle

Bodum calls the IBIS one of its classic products, and it is still one of the best-looking Bodum kettles. It has a stainless steel body with black details, a cordless jug and a separate power base. The model Bodum sells in the US today (11787) holds 1.0 liter, which is smaller than the 1.5-liter size quoted in older reviews, including an earlier version of this article.

Bodum lists several practical features: a hidden heating element under the base plate, so there is no coil inside the water, a removable limescale filter in the spout, a water level window, and an automatic shut-off when the water boils or if the kettle runs dry. Overheat protection is also built in. The exterior wipes clean with a damp cloth, and the inside can be descaled with a standard descaling product. If you want a simple stainless kettle that looks a little nicer than a basic plastic one, this is the one to check first.

2. MELIOR Gooseneck Water Kettle

Bodum Electric Kettle

The MELIOR is Bodum’s kettle for pour-over coffee. Its long, thin spout is shaped like the neck of a goose, which lets you control the flow and pour slowly in circles over the coffee grounds. That even pour is what pour-over brewers are after.

Bodum makes it from stainless steel with a non-slip natural cork accent, which gives it a warmer look than most gooseneck kettles. The capacity is 0.8 liters (27 ounces), which is right for one to three cups of coffee but small for a pot of tea for a group, and it weighs about 2.1 pounds. It is not the cheapest option in Bodum’s range, so it makes the most sense if you care about design as much as function. If you also want to set the water temperature, look at the Bistro gooseneck further down.

3. Bodum Bistro Electric Water Kettle

Bodum Electric Kettle

The basic Bistro kettle has a BPA-free plastic body and comes in several colors. Bodum sells it in two sizes: 1.0 liter (34 ounces) and a compact 0.5 liter (17 ounces) that suits one person or a small office. It is the affordable pick in the lineup and does the everyday job of boiling water for tea, coffee or instant noodles without fuss.

It has the features you expect: a cordless jug that sits on the base in any direction, a manual on/off switch, an indicator light, automatic shut-off at the boil, and a water level scale marked in liters, ounces and cups so you only heat what you need. According to Bodum, the 1.0-liter model is rated at 1300 watts. If you need a basic kettle and don’t mind plastic, the Bistro will serve you well.

4. Bodum Bistro Double Wall Electric Water Kettle

Bodum Electric Kettle

This is the step-up Bistro, built for tea drinkers. It has a double-wall design with a borosilicate glass inner wall, so you can see the water as it heats, and the outer wall helps keep the heat in. The capacity is 1.1 liters (37 ounces).

The main reason to buy it is temperature control. There are five settings: 60°C/140°F, 70°C/158°F, 80°C/176°F, 90°C/194°F and 100°C/212°F. Lower temperatures suit green and white teas, which can turn bitter in boiling water, and you save a little energy by not always heating to a full boil. A keep-warm function holds the water at your chosen temperature for up to 30 minutes, so you don’t have to reheat it for a second cup. The kettle shuts off automatically once it reaches the set temperature.

5. Bodum Bistro Gooseneck Electric Water Kettle

Bodum Electric Kettle

The current Bistro gooseneck combines the precise spout of the MELIOR with the temperature control of the double-wall Bistro. It is made of stainless steel, holds 1.0 liter (34 ounces) and is cordless, with an ergonomic, non-slip handle.

Next to the on/off switch there is a temperature knob with five settings from 60°C to 100°C and a keep-warm button, so it works well for both pour-over coffee and delicate teas. It shuts off automatically. This is the priciest kettle in this list: Bodum lists it at about $110 (September 2026). The stainless steel body is durable and easy to care for. Descale the inside with a descaling product and wipe the outside with a damp cloth.

What to Look for in a Bodum Kettle

  • Capacity: Bodum’s kettles run from 0.5 to 1.1 liters. For a household that drinks several cups at once, pick a 1.0 or 1.1-liter model.
  • Spout: A gooseneck spout is worth it only if you make pour-over coffee. For tea and general use, a standard spout pours faster.
  • Temperature control: If you drink green, white or oolong tea, one of the two temperature-control Bistro models is worth the extra cost.
  • Material: Stainless steel bodies (IBIS, MELIOR, Bistro gooseneck) and the glass inner wall of the Bistro double wall appeal to buyers who prefer less plastic. The basic Bistro has a plastic body.

Conclusion

For most people, the 1.0-liter Bistro or the IBIS covers everyday needs at a reasonable price. Tea drinkers get the most from the double-wall Bistro with temperature control, and pour-over coffee fans should look at the MELIOR or, for temperature control too, the Bistro gooseneck. All five add a clean, simple look to the kitchen, and the basic models are affordable enough for almost any budget.
